Two days of 4BBB and Foursomes have separated the contenders from the chasing pack, but the Plaque and Mug divisions remain finely poised heading into the decisive Singles
MUTHAIGA, NAIROBI — Two days of team golf have transformed the 2026 Patron’s Cup landscape, with some divisions beginning to develop clear leaders while others are heading into Sunday’s Singles on a knife edge.
After Saturday’s 4BBB and Foursomes, Muthaiga remain firmly in control of the Trophy Division on 82 points, while Sigona have established a 19.5-point advantage in the Shield. Windsor have also built a commanding 27.5-point lead in the Bowl. But it is in the Plaque and Mug divisions where the final day promises the greatest drama, with only 5.5 points separating Golf Park and Kiambu and just four points between Ruiru and Eldoret.
The contrast between the divisions underlines what makes the Patron’s Cup so compelling. While some teams have spent two days building commanding cushions, others have had to fight through momentum swings, recoveries and setbacks. With Sunday's Singles carrying the competition into its final phase, every point will now have significantly greater weight.
Trophy Division: Muthaiga in command, Vet Lab fighting for second
Muthaiga have continued their remarkable start to the championship, adding another 41 points on Saturday to match their Friday total. The defending champions collected 20 points in the morning 4BBB before taking another 21 in the afternoon Foursomes. Their cumulative tally now stands at 82, giving them a massive 41-point advantage over Vet Lab.
Saturday again demonstrated Muthaiga's depth. Ben Murimi and Khushil Nathwani defeated Railway 2/1, while Jay Sandhu and Quram Bhatti produced a commanding 6/4 victory over Vet Lab. Bo Ciera and Daniel Kiragu added a 1-up win, and Neer Chandaria and Ronan Patel defeated Railway 2/1. The afternoon Foursomes continued the pattern, with Muthaiga taking four of their five matches.
The consistency is perhaps the most striking feature of Muthaiga's campaign. They have now produced 41 points on both Friday and Saturday, with no major dip across the four team-format sessions. The defending champions therefore enter Sunday's Singles with the Trophy firmly within their grasp.
Vet Lab's Saturday was less consistent. They managed only 2.5 points in the morning 4BBB but recovered with 15 in Foursomes. Their afternoon response was important, but the slow morning left them with too much ground to make up against Muthaiga. With 41 points overall, their realistic target on Sunday is now to secure second place and finish their first Trophy campaign strongly.
Railway, meanwhile, continued their recovery from Friday's disastrous opening 4BBB session. They collected 7.5 points in Saturday morning's 4BBB and added nine in the afternoon. Their 5/4 victory over Vet Lab in the morning was a positive sign, but the damage from Friday remains too substantial for them to challenge at the top.
Shield Division: Sigona create breathing room
Sigona have strengthened their position as the leading promotion candidate in the Shield. After their impressive opening day, they added 12.5 points in Saturday morning's 4BBB and another 18 in Foursomes to move to 68 points.
Their afternoon was particularly encouraging. Sigona secured wins over Thika and Nyali, including a 4/3 victory by Maahir Patel and Aarush Vara over Thika and a 2/1 win by Ronak Malde and Dinesh Vara. The result leaves them 19.5 points clear of Thika going into the Singles.
Thika remain in second on 48.5 points after collecting 10 points in 4BBB and 13.5 in Foursomes on Saturday. They remain comfortably ahead of Nyali, but Sigona's consistency has opened a substantial gap. Thika will need a major Singles performance if they are to overturn the deficit.
Nyali, meanwhile, showed signs of improvement but remain third on 33.5 points. Their 7.5-point 4BBB return was followed by 13.5 in Foursomes, including a 3/2 victory over Sigona. The performance represents an improvement on Friday, but their slow start to the competition continues to weigh heavily on their promotion ambitions.
Plaque Division: The race everyone will be watching
If there is one division that has developed into a genuine three-way contest, it is the Plaque.
Golf Park still lead, but their advantage has been reduced to just 5.5 points over Kiambu. Golf Park collected 15 points in Saturday's 4BBB but managed only 10.5 in Foursomes, finishing the day on 25.5 points and moving to 56 overall.
Their morning was strong, with James Mwangi and Collins Munuve winning 5/3 against Royal and Silvester Ettan and Elkana Saurei taking their match 1 up. But the afternoon was less productive, allowing Kiambu and Royal to close the gap.
Kiambu have continued the remarkable recovery that began on Friday. After scoring zero in Friday morning's 4BBB before taking 24 points in the afternoon, they produced another strong Saturday, collecting 10 points in 4BBB and 16.5 in Foursomes. Their 26.5-point day was the best in the division, moving them to 50.5 overall.
Their afternoon included several important wins, including a 5/3 victory by Steve Kiaro and Peter Waiharo and a 5/3 win by another Kiambu pairing. Kiambu have therefore turned what looked like a disastrous start into a serious promotion challenge. They now go into Sunday just 5.5 points behind Golf Park.
Royal are still in the conversation on 43.5 points. Their Saturday was another example of the inconsistency that has characterised their campaign. They collected only five points in 4BBB but responded with 18 in Foursomes, the strongest afternoon return in the division. Their afternoon included a 3/2 win over Golf Park and several victories against Kiambu.
Royal are now 12.5 points behind Golf Park, but Sunday's Singles gives them an opportunity to attack both teams ahead of them. After their impressive 2025 Bowl-winning campaign, they have shown enough quality to remain a dangerous outsider.
Bowl Division: Windsor within touching distance of promotion
Windsor have been the dominant force in the Bowl and now sit on 74 points after another strong Saturday.
They collected the maximum 20 points in the morning 4BBB before adding 16 in Foursomes. Their morning was particularly emphatic, while the afternoon included wins over Limuru and Karen.The result has given Windsor a 27.5-point advantage over Limuru. After winning the Mug Division last year and earning promotion, Windsor now look well positioned to make another move up the competition ladder.
Limuru remain second on 46.5 points after collecting 7.5 in 4BBB and 16 in Foursomes on Saturday. Their afternoon response was encouraging, but Windsor's consistency has made the gap difficult to close.
For Karen, the story is much more difficult. They managed only 2.5 points in 4BBB and four in Foursomes, leaving them on 11.5 points overall. Although they recorded an individual 4/3 win over Windsor in the afternoon, it was not enough to change the overall picture. Sunday now becomes an opportunity for Karen to finish strongly and salvage a difficult campaign.
Mug Division: Four points separates Ruiru and Eldoret
The Mug Division has produced the closest promotion race heading into Sunday's Singles.
Ruiru remain leaders on 59 points, but their advantage over Eldoret has been cut to just four points. Ruiru collected 15 points in Saturday's 4BBB and another 12 in Foursomes, giving them 27 points for the day.Eldoret, however, produced the stronger Saturday. They took 15 points in 4BBB and an impressive 16 in Foursomes for a 31-point day, four points better than Ruiru. Their afternoon was particularly effective, with a 5/4 win over Ruiru in the opening match followed by a 2/1 victory in the second and another 3/1 win in the third.
That performance has completely changed the complexion of the promotion battle. Ruiru led Eldoret by eight points after Friday; by the end of Saturday, only four points separated the two clubs.
Ruiru still hold the advantage, but Eldoret have the momentum.
Kericho remain third on 14 points after another difficult day. They failed to score in the morning 4BBB and managed only four points in Foursomes. The newcomers have found the competition demanding, but Sunday's Singles will give them an opportunity to end their first Patron's Cup campaign on a positive note.
Sunday: Singles set up the final drama
The stage is now set for the final day, and the divisions enter Sunday in very different positions.
Muthaiga's 41-point lead in the Trophy makes them overwhelming favourites, while Sigona's 19.5-point advantage in the Shield gives them a strong platform to secure promotion. Windsor are in an even stronger position in the Bowl, holding a 27.5-point cushion over Limuru.
But the Plaque and Mug divisions remain wide open.Golf Park have a 5.5-point lead over Kiambu, with Royal only 12.5 behind the leaders. After two days of dramatic momentum swings, the Singles could easily turn the division on its head.
The Mug promises an equally compelling finale. Ruiru lead Eldoret by only four points, but Eldoret have produced the stronger Saturday and will enter Sunday's Singles with considerable momentum. With promotion at stake, every individual match could prove decisive.
Sunday therefore becomes more than the final round of the Patron's Cup. For some clubs it is a chance to secure promotion; for others it is an opportunity to complete a championship campaign; and for those at the bottom, every available point matters.
After two days, the picture is becoming clearer — but not everywhere.
Muthaiga have built a commanding Trophy lead. Sigona and Windsor have put themselves in powerful positions. But in the Plaque and Mug divisions, the promotion battles remain very much alive.
Four points separate Ruiru and Eldoret. Five and a half separate Golf Park and Kiambu.On Sunday, the Singles decide who holds their nerve when it matters most.
